Prosthodontics

The prosthodontic, by definition, is a branch of dentistry that deals with replacement of missing teeth and it is divided into 'fixed' and 'removable'. Prosthodontic treatments range from restoration of a single tooth to replacement of partial or entire dentition. The goal of fixed and removable prosthodontic is to improve patient's comfort and masticatory (chewing) ability, maintain the health and integrity of the dental arches, as well as esthetics. Comprehensive prosthodontic treatment can even correct the temporomandibular joint and neuromuscular problems; however, with improper treatment, it may result in disharmony and damage to the oral health.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the area of dentistry that involves the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. These irregularities often result in "malocclusion , that is, problems with the way the teeth fit together. Orthodontic problems can affect dental and general health, as well as personal appearance. If the teeth are out of position, they are more difficult to clean. This increases the risk of dental caries (tooth decay) and periodontal (gum) disease. If chewing is difficult, people may not eat the foods needed for good nutrition. If the bite is poor, this may put extra stress on the chewing muscles, possibly causing pain and problems with the jaw joints.
